In short, yes, genetics have been found to play a role in autism. Once my second child was diagnosed with autism, the physician recommended we get genetic testing done. They stated that because we had more than one child that was autistic, the likelihood of one, if not both of us being on the spectrum, was high. At the time, we declined this testing as it was expensive, and we were done having children so we didn’t see a point in finding out. What would it change?
However, it is an interesting thought that autism has both hereditary and environmental factors. I recently found an article done by UCLA that dives into this topic, and as a science nerd I found it interesting. You can check it out below!
Autism is not a disease or something that can be cured. However, there are countless therapies, resources, and supplements that can help your child live their best life. Those items paired with a great support system is what helps autism families thrive ♡
If you do not have a solid support system, check out my autism moms group! It just a judgement free space to come for advice, have questions answered, and find resources and support. It’s a group where autism is embraced for all that it is and a place to be empowered! Hope to see you there!
